Bilateral relations

Britain was the first western country to establish diplomatic relations with Mongolia in 1963. Celebrations were held in 2003 to mark the 40th Anniversary. These included the official visit to Britain of the Mongolian Prime Minister Enkhbayar, during which he met both the Prime Minister and the Foreign Secretary.

The bilateral relationship has always been close. Round table discussions between the two governments take place on a regular basis, usually every two years. The British Embassy has worked with the Mongolian Government in key areas of good governance, economic reform and human rights. The Mongolian Government has shown great support for the UK in the international sphere.
